About this image

A crop of a larger image.

Mare Imbrium is to the right and Mare Serenitatis at upper left.

The large crater towards the right edge is Archimedes (83km). Immediately to its left are Autolycus (39km) and Aristillus (55km). Directly below Archimedes are Montes Spitzbergen (1,500m high).

The mountains top right are the Apennines and left of centre the Caucasus.

T he craters at far left are Eudoxus (67km) and Aristoteles (87km).

Being of a certain age, I well remember the excitement of the Apollo 15 landing at Hadley Rille. This is visible on the edge of the Apennines at the 11 o'clock position from Archimedes.
