JunoCam at PJ68

Here is our report on Juno’s Perijove-68, which occurred on 2024 Dec.27.  The highlight was the unexpected discovery of a new large eruption on Io, close to the south pole, which has happened since PJ66.  Figures 1 and 2, copied below, show the change as a new black spot surrounded by a huge irregular annulus of brown deposits.

The images of Jupiter were typical.  Our report includes a map of the planet from amateur images (also copied below) as well as maps from the JunoCam images.  The closeups of the northern circumpolar cyclones were valuable in showing progressive changes since PJ67.
