New B.A.A. Guide to Jupiter’s Atmospheric Phenomena
The BAA Jupiter Section has posted an important new resource: ‘The B.A.A. Guide to Jupiter’s Atmospheric Phenomena since 1990’. This is a guide to the major features of Jupiter’s atmosphere, and to the major phenomena that have occurred since 1990, and is also an index to the numerous studies that we in the BAA Jupiter Section have published or posted about them. We hope that it will enable non-specialists to understand what observers see on the planet, and specialists to find all the detailed information about it. It is at:
https://britastro.org/…/jupiter…/baa-guide-to-jupiter
The Guide gives references to all the Section’s most significant reports and publications, and hyperlinks to most of them. (Only a few professional references are included, mainly those in which the Jupiter Section was also involved.) It can be used online, or downloaded as a PDF.
The study of Jupiter over this time has been immensely rewarding, with continuing improvements in every aspect: amateur imaging and analysis, spacecraft including Juno, and professional observations and theoretical work, with fruitful collaborations between all the communities involved. All this has transformed our views and our understanding of the planet, which are now far deeper and more complete than before. Thanks are due to all the observers whose images have been provided for analysis, and to all our collaborators, at any time over the past 35 years.
