Hello, I wonder if anyone could help me please in checking a VS result. I have downloaded AIP4WIN, (much learning and practice to undertake with this software) and also the BAA Excel Photometry Spreadsheet, also some learning and practice to better understand all of its intricacies. Nevertheless I attempted some analysis using my own data with AIP4WIN and tried to make sense of it with the BAA Photometry Spreadsheet. My goal is to (hopefully) upload accurate results to the BAAVSS.
The VS in question is ASASSN-V J034127.40+443255.9 as listed on the The International Variable Star Index webpage.
Thank you and clear skies

Hopefully one of our current AIP4Win users will jump in. If not then I can offer you some help by reviewing your spreadsheet results. I have a little knowledge of AIP4in though I’ve not used it in many years. I manage the BAA VSS/Photometry database and did a lot of the work to create the spreadsheet. I’ll also be the person to set you up with a login.
You can contact me via my official BAA email address photdbm@britastro.org.
As you’ve already got AIP4Win and the spreadsheet working, you are well on the way to submitting observations!
Best wishes,
Andy

im also happy to have a look if you send me your S/sheet, one of your FITS files and, if possible, a screenshot from AIP4WIN showing the variable and comparisons apertures marked.
The other thing you can do whilst learning is to compare your results with others in the databases. I have not looked up this star so I don’t know whether there are data, otherwise you can also try another star for which there are data
Go well!

I am sure the more I practice and the more I learn from experienced VS observers then the easier I think I will manage to submit results that are of value. Cheers Andy.

There’s a bit of a story behind this because I was actually monitoring a minor planet at the time as requested by some friends in Italy as they were clouded out and it was clear skies here in Ireland (a rare situation I think you would agree!), but noticed two variable stars after some analysis within the FITS images the next day. I checked the AAVSO VS data base and no stars were listed for those locations that were designated as variable. I continued to take many images to gather enough data to cover as much of the lightcurves as possible. Just as I was happy with what I had and we were ready to submit data for one of those stars (ASASSN-V J034127.40+443255.9) we were just beaten to it by a few days, however the second star after additional observations and analyses by my friends in Italy we managed to bag that one (000-BMX-685).

With best regards and clear skies

Go well!
