According to The Register (https://www.theregister.com/2021/11/25/solar_orbiter_debris/) Solar Orbiter is doing a flyby tomorrow night.

Does anyone know where we might potentially get positions for the probe as viewed from our home sites? JPL Horizons?

The forecast looks iffy from Wiltshire but it would be fun to try (if rather cold).

Just search for SOLO on JPL Horizons. We’ll get a good view of it outbound on the evening of Nov 27.

It is a very close flyby, some details here. The navigation is very precise though so we know exactly where it is going. The main “risk” is it passing through near-Earth space which is full of stuff. You can see which ESA ground station is tracking it on esanow here.

Oh, SOLO. That has saved some cursing on my part….

    Thank you!

EDIT: the 56MPH winds forecast for here at the time kind of dampen enthusiasm….
