Optical transient L = 13.4, amplitude ~8.5 mag, possibly a nova as described here: https://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=16842
J2000 coordinates RA = 06:50:54.49, Dec = +59:36:24.51
60s exposure in grotty, hazy conditions from Chelmsford tonight (Oct 4) shows it around mag 13.2 unfiltered vs Gaia G.

I set my C11 in Spain to image it for a couple of hours early this morning (6th Oct : JD 2460589.588866 – 2460589.697257) and got 132 measurements in an L filter. I used AAVSO chart X38448OQ and V magnitudes to get the attached. Average Vmag was 13.33 and there seems to be a gentle fade (the check star looks flat).
See attached for light curves and also the FOV with comp stars from AstroArt8.
Andy – are we going to add this to our BAA database? I have uploaded to the AAVSO db.

The software will detect that this is a new object, and will create a new file with the name I upload it with – which is GOTO065054.49+593624.51 I can’t see any alias in VSX, so it will be this long winded nonsense I’m afraid.

Ian.Spectroscopy from the GOTO team leads them to suggest this is a WZ Sge type dwarf nova: https://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=16858
If so, one might expect superhumps to develop.
An ALPY200 spectrum from 20241010 (with severe auroral line contamination removed) confirms the typical features of a dwarf nova in outburst as described in ATel 16858

Tonny Vanmunster reports the emergence of 0.16 mag amplitude humps 13 days into the outburst of this putative UGWZ dwarf nova. The period is ~0.067 days.

Thanks Ian. I note that the star dipped (to mag 16) and re-brightened ~4 days ago. Classic UGWZ. I wonder if there will be further such episodes.
A few more spectra, the latest one at higher resolution with the ALPY600 (missed the fade unfortunately)

Latest data shows that the rebrightening episode, which lasted ~9 days, is now over with the star having faded to 18th mag. Additional rebrightenings are possible.
