I have been getting red auroral alerts since 2pm this afternoon and the storm looks quite strong. Hopefully it will carry on until fully dark and we can see some aurora. Fingers crossed! Hoping for clear skies for you all.

Lunar phase could spoil the show?

According to the handbook the moon won’t rise until 23:34 UT, so after midnight by our clocks. I have just been out to check my sky here in Norfolk but there appears to be too much haze/thin cloud. I have taken a few pictures but nothing is showing. Will try again later.

I have a quite extensive red aurora visible on one of my monitoring cameras in Chelmsford now (April 16, 21:11 UTC).

I picked up a small patch of purplish aurora in one of my frames at about the same time at 21.17 UT.

Half decent display here near Salisbury at just after 20:00 UT. Didn’t last long though.

EDIT: I forgot to change the time on my camera. This should read “after 21:00”.

Grant – Are you an hour out? The sky was hardly dark at 20:00 UTC and my cameras show the aurora becoming active around 21:08 UTC.
