Spectra of this new object in the BAA spectroscopic database taken by Peter Somogyi do not look to me like your typical classical nova or dwarf nova outburst.

From my admittedly very limited knowledge and a bit of googling it looks like it could be a polar. Any more expert views would be welcome.
