We now have details of the speakers and talks for the BAA Summer Meeting at UCL on Saturday, July 12. The title is: Observational astronomy then and now: the legacy of Sir Patrick Moore. It’s free to members and should be popular. Get your booking in early!
Nick.

It’s likely I can be in London that weekend so will make a booking.

>>Does this replace the Exhibition Meeting?<<
The Exhibition is every other year now, so for this year and 2012 we have held a ‘summer meeting’ in the intervening year.
Bookings are coming in very fast for the meeting at UCL on July 12 and numbers are inevitably limited, so do book soon if you would like to attend.

Attended yesterday and would just like to say thanks to all concerned. I Haven’t attended a meeting for some time and this one was exceptionally well attended, organised and executed. Very enjoyable…
Many Thanks to all

I look forward to the recording of the meeting, because I had to leave at 5:35 for my train, whilst Allan was still in full flow!
Clear skies,
Alex.

The audio and slides are loaded on my PC so the recording should be up on the site in the next few weeks or so. All the talks were very good but Allan’s stood out as he put Patrick’s life in the context of other astronomy popularisers of the past. He also did a good job of putting some of Patrick’s taller stories in context. Patrick was in a good company since apparently Galileo and Newton did the same thing…

14 July 2014 at 10:49 am #576604Alex PrattParticipantHi Nick,
Thanks to your efforts we will have a valuable audio and visual record of this key meeting.
Re the slides – my preference from PowerPoint is ‘Save as PDF’ so that I can read any accompanying text, but as an alternative the JPGs are fine.
Yes, just before I had to dash I caught Allan’s comment that Patrick was an accomplished raconteur, placing him in good company along with Galileo and Newton. 🙂
Clear skies,
Alex.

It would be good to see a few thumbnails posted here too. I’ll start the ball rolling with the attached.

16 July 2014 at 1:03 am #576606John ThorpeParticipantHi Nick
I just wanted to say that I am delighted that recordings of the day will be available for those of us too far away to be there at the meeting. I have been hoping this would be possible. Thanks so much!
20 July 2014 at 7:22 pm #576615Nick JamesParticipantThe meeting videos are nearly done and they should be up on the site early this coming week. I’ll post an announcement here when they are up.
