Help identifying mystery man

I am still working my way through piles of leaflets and items I retrieved from Storm Dunlop’s house and have found this photo of Storm and a mystery man. The photo was clearly taken in Storm’s office upstairs in his house, and it looks like he is being presented with something, but does anyone know who the mystery man is or what era this would have been?

Hello James,

Did Storm’s upstairs office really resemble a camera shop? Loads of metal camera cases in the background and some on the floor between him and the mystery man. The camera box with Canon Sure Shot looks like the box from the early ’80s. The newspaper under the box seems to have a headline that says
‘The Birthday Celebration’ and ‘COMEDY’ beneath that. Was it a flyer for a local theatre production perhaps?

The newspaper refers to 3rd birthday celebration and mentions Whitby (twice).
This must refer to Chichester’s camera shop, Whitby’s. It still operation and has been going over 40 years according to their website: https://www.whitbys-imaging.co.uk/

Martin, yes, defiantely Storm’s office, it looked very similar when I was there earlier this year.

I think Jeremy is on to something. I’ve emailed Whitbys. I will keep you posted. I might email John Mason and see if he recognises the chap.

Whitbys have replied to my email.

The chap is Derek Whitby who started the business in 1982. The photo is from August 1985 and was taken in the Sadlers Waklk premises, not Storm’s office.
