Fellow members may be interested to learn of this community initiative: –

“James Clerk Maxwell is buried in Parton Kirkyard. Earlier this year, the Church of Scotland took the decision to release Parton Kirk for sale. The local community has been given an opportunity to purchase the building and have an ambitious vision to preserve the Kirk and develop it as a James Clerk Maxwell Science and Community Centre, celebrating his life and scientific legacy.

A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to help secure the building. The immediate target is £70,000, which would allow the community to purchase the Kirk and undertake the essential work required to secure it while longer-term plans are developed. To find out more or contribute, visit the JustGiving website and type ‘Parton Kirk’ in their search box.

Parton Kirk is not simply the location of a historic grave. It is a place where the story of one of the UK’s great physicists can be brought to life. Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
