    Hi everybody

I don’t know if the Historical section knows about this, but this plaque was spotted on the wall of the porch entrance of the church of St Michael’s with St Gabriel’s in East Ardsley near Wakefield just off J41 of the M1.  The small metal plaque at the bottom reads: “This plaque is made from original Victory oak & copper bolt, presented by commander in chief, Portsmouth”.

Apparently John Field was interred under the porch of the church.  I have to admit I didn’t know anything about this Astronomer, and of him introducing the Copernican theory into this country.

Peter, what a great thing to stumble on and what an interesting concept of someone promoting the Copernican theory here in England.
