An impact flash has been noted on some footage of Jupiter taken yesterday. Anyone who was imaging Jupiter at 19:26 UT on May 26th should check their footage and report any findings to the BAA Jupiter Section.
An image of the event is shown on Damian Peach’s Facebook page which can be viewed here.
If my calculations are correct, the impact site should be nicely earth-facing at around 0115 UT on the morning of the 28th. Might it be worth staying out after the Io – Ganymede double shadow transit, to see if there is any scarring in the NPR?
