Andy WilsonKeymasterHi Paul,
Welcome to the BAA!
If you are an active observer, then may I recommend joining one or more of the Observing Sections. You don’t need to be highly skilled to contribute. The Sections will help you to develop your skills and are a great way to get to know other members.
Best wishes,
Andy3 June 2026 at 6:47 pm #640566
Dr Paul LeylandParticipantHi Paul.
Do you have any particular interests in mind right now? If you let us know we may be able to give you more help and guidance.
I’ve been a variable star guy since the age of 14 when I started estimating the magnitude of delta Cephei with a mark-1 eyeball and managed to get a satisfactory light curve by folding on the known period before I took O Levels. (Incidentally, that shows roughly how old I am.) That made the VSS (Variable Star Section) a natural home for me.
Cheers,
Paul (another one)8 June 2026 at 11:11 am #640637

Hi Paul,
I guess I have a general interest in all fields of Astronomy; spreading my interest finely across a wide field I suppose. I do enjoy historic Astronomy, observing the moon and planets and astrophotography; although not an expert in any of these fields.8 June 2026 at 11:12 am #640639
