17 March 2021 at 9:36 am #574916Roger Dymock ParticipantCould anyone recommend software which will define the observable field of view in terms of RA and Dec given the observer’s location, date, hours of darkness and minimum declination? Regards 17 March 2021 at 4:30 pm #583954 Peter GudgeonParticipant Peter GudgeonParticipantI use Stellarium for this, once set-up with your location you can display the sky as viewed from your site at any given date/time and show both the RA/Dec grid and the local Azimuth/compass bearing grid. I googled how to set-up my own horizon, kept it simple with just a list of bearings/elevations to give a simple artificial horizon so I know when things disappear behind trees/mountains. If you want, you can replace the horizon with your own panoramic photo. 17 March 2021 at 4:32 pm #583955Roger Dymock ParticipantFound what I need. Object visibility – STARALT at http://catserver.ing.iac.es/staralt/ Regards 17 March 2021 at 7:13 pm #583956 stan armstrongParticipant stan armstrongParticipantHaving just completed my own horizon photo I was most interested in this.. however the Link obtained….” Not Found The requested URL /staralt/Â was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I did A Copy and Paste of LINK Itself which obtained this…” Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias catserver.ing.iac.es/staraltWe would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. Could a later extract possibly refer to a generic Issue? ” Useful ING Internet Addresses for INT Observers . It may occur while you are observing that you cannot access to common user INT web pages (even when Internet is working properly).” I should mention that due to my Arthritic fingers I only use Desktop PCs.. Hope this helps. 17 March 2021 at 8:44 pm #583958 Nick JamesParticipant Nick JamesParticipantJust edited the link so that it works. 19 March 2021 at 4:16 pm #583962 Maxim UsatovParticipant Maxim UsatovParticipantI can recommend SkyTools in addition to StarAlt mentioned above:
