Big thanks to John Beattie, Tim Todd and all those involved in organising the TEI Tours flight from Billund, Denmark. Everything went according to plan. Myself and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was great to meet fellow umbraphiles and see this astronomical spectacle. Some photos are attached. You can see the internal reflections in the glass and perspex windows.
I’ve never seen an eclipse from an aircraft but it clearly gives a completely different perspective on the various wide-angle phenomena, particularly the shadow. Thanks for posting these images. It looks like you had clear windows. I know that some of the eclipse flights had real problems with ice on the windows.
We were lucky in that we had John Beattie organised the trip. Nothing was left to chance. The windows were washed in deicing fluid the night before ir order to minimise the risk of ice buildup. The internal perspex windows were all replaced along sun-side of the plane so everyone had a nice clear view.
