Z Cam is a well-loved dwarf nova on the VSS observing programme. It is the prototype of the class of Z Cam-type of dwarf novae (UGZ). There have been attempts in the past to identify Z Cam with an historically observed nova and the case has been made for a one such in 77 BC. However, a new paper suggests that object might actually have been a comet and that another visitor, observed in 369 AD appears the most plausible candidate for Z Cam’s historical counterpart.
