Michael O’ConnellParticipant
Hi Dave,
I was prepared for it. I registered with calsky.com and receive daily email alerts of satellites transiting the Sun and Moon.
Regards
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantVery nice capture Dave. Well done.
As it happens, I just visually observed the ISS carry out a similar solar transit.
The speed is phenomenal!
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantHave you looked into installing Magic Lantern firmware add-on to the camera?
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Bill.
I was using a 1/2″ Watec 902 Supreme up to recently but in the past few weeks have upgraded to the 910HX and the increase in sensitivity is noticeable. Noticeable increase in the number of meteors for which I have recorded a spectrum.
I am also using a simple 500L/mm grating from eBay and a 6mm f0.75 lens – nice and fast yet with good optical quality.

Michael O’ConnellParticipantNice work Bill. I saw your YouTube clip before seeing this post and was wondering what NOVEX meant. 🙂
If Ni/Fe meteors suddenly appear at maximum brightness and then fade off, can we deduce anything beyond a low Ni/Fe content for meteors displaying the opposite of that?
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThat’s interesting Marc. Must give that a go.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantWell done Nick and all the guys in updating the guide.
Good resource.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Martin.
Would be interesting to put names to the people from the BAA, @ 5:22 in the video, who visited the telescope in 1997. I recognise a couple of the Irish people in attendance.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Bill.
Im currently using a 500 Lines/mm grating. If I were to use say a 1,000 Lines/mm grating, would that help the spectrum resolution and compensation for the shorter focal length lens?
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks guys.
Re the resolution issue, what focal length lens would you recommend?
Michael O’ConnellParticipantVery nice work Bill.
Did you also use a 25mm lens for the spectrum setup?
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Jeremy and Nick. Very useful piece of kit.
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Nick. Very useful for those unable to make the meetings.
Mind me asking what hardware/software you use to make these videos please?

Michael O’ConnellParticipantAs William explained above, I captured it on my all-sky camera from Monasterevin, Co. Kildare consisting of a Computar 2.6mm lens and Watch 902H2 Supreme.
Analysis in UFOAnalyser indicates a Leonid.
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks John.
Thansk Gary. I’ll give that a try.
Michael.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Guys.
Just joined.
Michael O’ConnellParticipantThanks Jeremy. I’ll give NSV2026 a shot.
