Has been gazing-up since the age of about eight. While in my teens i joined the JAS (SPA), observing the Sun by projection, and timing lunar occultations. Im not sure why (now) i was attracted to lunar occulations, but having a stopwatch was a good start, and i liked to make measurments. On the Monte Umbe Eclipse cruise June 1973, I applied for BAA membership. In 1980 I started visual monitoring of asteroidal occultations with predictions from Gordon E. Taylor in the HBAA. The European Asteroidal Occultation Network (EAON) based in Belgium provided more detailed predictions, and so the interest continued. Since my first observed asteroid occultation (in 2010) i have spent a total of 6 minutes in the shadow of asteroids ! I have also video recorded lunar grazing occultations with good timing accuracy, getting about one/year. My other interests include comets, deep-sky imaging, and some other time dependent phenomena (eg EXOPLANETS).
