That’s great news, thanks for the heads up about V3.4. It’s exciting to see ZWO leaning further into the “serious science with a smartscope” direction. The addition of a dedicated photometry mode could be a real game changer for anyone wanting to try variable star measurements or light curve projects without needing extra software. I’m looking forward to giving it a try and seeing how well it integrates with the existing workflow once I figure it out as variable stars is not my field. It might be now, owning all the seestar family.

Alex, this is such an exciting direction. The growing community of Smartscope users is hungry for meaningful projects, and the BAA stepping in with structured pathways, especially in areas like occultation work and variable star observing—would be a game changer. The pro‑am occultation network is a brilliant example: Smartscopes already have the sensitivity and automation, and pairing them with a simple GPS flasher makes accurate timing genuinely accessible. That’s exactly the kind of “small upgrade, big science” story that inspires newcomer. I’m not familiar with this myself, but I’ll definitely be taking a look, being an owner of all the seestar smartscopes. Will just need to get my head around of how I do it!
