About this image

For what it's worth, my attempt at the spectrum of the supernova in NGC3147.  After taking an image of the galaxy I installed the 3 degree objective prism on the front of the telescope and took more images to try for the spectrum.  Just about managed to get the main absorption features, i.e. the three relatively sharp dips and the two broader bands, identified on the image above.  These correspond to the features seen in Robin Leadbeater's spectrum on the Forum. At magnitude 14.5 it's near the limit of what I can do with my set-up without trying a lot harder!

Nice to see Kevin Gurney's spectrum of another Type I supernova, SN 2021hiz, which shows the same pattern of absorption features.

Field is 18 x 10 arc minutes with north to the right.
