About this image

Jupiter with Callisto passing behind the planet, imaged in a period of excellent seeing. Some discussions with Peter Tickner reminded me that in good conditions, longer exposures with lower gain will reduce the noise and allow finer details to be captured. Seeing is still the dominant factor, but a video with 4 ms exposures captured immediately before this one shows noticeably less detail.
