ParticipantI’m about to upgrade my system and will, after 17 years (eek!), be selling my 2008 vintage SkyWatcher NEQ6 mount. I’ve been its only user. It spent 14 years stored indoors between clear nights and has been in an observatory the last 4 years.
During lockdown I replaced the gears inside it with Rowan belts – you can find the discussion in the BAA forum somewhere. It works well and is generally good for about 80% of 60s frames untrailed with 1.58 arc sec pixels.
Its one of those with the original D type connectors. It has a handset I’ve not used since 2010 – but that has always lived indoors.
It comes with 2x EQDIR D type-USB adaptors. One I use every night, the other I have not used in a couple of years – it had an inconvenient length cable.
The mount runs off 12V reasonably happily, but prefers a 13.8DC supply if possible. I have a connector that fits but no power supply as my rig has a single 13.8V linear supply powering everything.
Theres 4 counterweights which are showing some signs of rust and the bolts holding the scope on are corroded, but perfectly usable.
The Polarscope may need realignment – not sure, its years since I used it.
I’m asking £500 for the mount.
It does not come with a tripod but theres a Vixen pedestal with a machined EQ6 adaptor available for an additional £50
Alternatively, there a hefty/sturdy bespoke EQ6 compatible pier available if wanted. The pier is an additional £75. It really is quite heavy (two man lift or 1 man waddle walk) – but never shifts.
Pictures of the mount/pedestal/pier available.
Am based in the Salisbury area. Please contact me via the BAA forum personal message service.
