ParticipantThe following was sent out to the Starlight Xpress mailing group by Michael Hattey this morning. The information is now freely shareable.
I will miss Terry.
Dear All,
I wanted to share this announcement with all of you on this group before posting it on any other platforms, and social media, as I know how much Terry valued all the support you have given him and the company over the years.
I won’t say too much more, as I believe the attached PDF is a more fitting tribute to Terry; someone who I have not only admired and worked with since before we started the company back in 1990, but had the unique privilege of his friendship throughout all those years.
We will strive to continue supporting all of our customer, and future customers, in the way Terry has instilled in us all, and in the memory of one of the nicest, kindest and smartest people that I’ve had the privilege of knowing.
Thank you all once again for your continued support.
Best wishes,
MichaelStarlight Xpress Ltd.

_._,_._,_I suggest that a notice (at least) and an obit. (preferable) be published in the next issue of the Journal. Terry’s and Starlight Xpress’ influence on amateur astronomy around the world has been immense.

ParticipantSo very sorry to hear this news. Terry started me on my CCD journey probably now 35 years ago with one of his earliest cameras.
To see a faint galaxy appear on a screen after a matter of seconds or millisecond images of Mars clearly showing surface detail was a revelation in amateur astronomy at that time. He really set the bar in what his cameras could record. Terry, you will be sorely missed.David

ParticipantSuch sad news. Terry was a leader in his field and a man who brought ccd image observing to the UK amateur astronomer world.I knew him for many years (1980’s onwards) via the BAA and TA. I bought and used SX cameras since Starlight Xpress was formed. I still have an SVFH9.Terry was always approachable and was able to advise and help wherever he could. He will be sorely missed by all who know him. Definitely a one off character never to be replaced or surpassed.
RIP Terry Platt
