Marc Serrau posted this message on the Planoccult list server:

    Hi everyone,

Guy Boistel—a friend of mine, member of the GEOS, and a researcher in the history of science at the University of Nantes—has produced the following book:

It is also about the organisation, travels, tribulations and work of many professional astronomers that were sent in Spain, Algeria and other countries in the frame of the observation of the total eclipse of Sun in August 1905. Next year, a lot of us will be doing the same experience 122 years later.

The book can be freely downloaded here : https://site.bdlg.fr/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/BOISTEL_Eclipse_eBook_Rev1.pdf

For supporting the author (and the BDL’s publication) you can also buy the print version. Please contact the secretary of the Bureau des Longitudes regarding shipping details: Ms. Pascale Carpentier BUREAU DES LONGITUDES’s secretary at administration@bureau-des-longitudes.fr .

    Best regards

    Marc

Alex, I have had some recent contact with the author, prior to your Forum post, and he has agreed to send a review copy to our Journal editor. He had inquired about any archival material we had relating to the event, but in fact there is only the special BAA publication that exists, summarising the observations from those who travelled to see it and from those who stayed at home.

The path of totality over Spain is remarkably similar to that of 2026. Chance or good reason ? It looks a fascinating and detailed account.
    Thanks.
    Tim
