I am updating a presentation about radio astronomy and I would like to include a picture of Crater Jansky. Carl Jansky discovered cosmic radio waves in the early 1930’s and is credited with the first detection. He has a unit of measurement and a lunar crater named after him.

I am wondering if any of the lunar observers have a picture, photograph or sketch which they would allow me to use.

Wikipedia gives its coordinates as 8.63°N 89.5°E.

    Best regards

    Andrew,

Dave Finnigan has a really spectacular image of Mare Marginis from 2023 which features Jansky. It’s a fairly hard crater to image. I’ve taken the liberty of making an animated gif of Dave’s image to show which crater is Jansky. I would contact Dave and see if he is happy for you to use it.

You could also email Tony Cook, the Lunar Section Director and see if he has any images of it in the BAA archives. I will add this crater to my list of things to try and observe.

    Good luck with the talk.

This may sound like a silly question, but why not use the one on the Wikipedia page as viewed by Lunar Orbiter 4?
