I have read and watched several news reports over the last few days, including from the BBC, saying that China has landed a satellite on “the dark side of the Moon”.
Could the BAA take this opportunity to enlighten these ill-informed journalists and the public by issuing a statement that there is no dark side of the Moon!
Surely part of the BAA’s role is in public education/information. OK for Pink Floyd, but that’s showbiz.

From the album: “There is no dark side of the Moon really – as a matter of fact it’s all dark”

It is the dark side of the moon in the same way that Africa is the dark continent.

And, indeed, it is all dark. The albedo is comparable with fresh asphalt.

Curiously, I noted that BBC Breakfast used “Far Side” but they had a tame astrophysicist on. So maybe he corrected them. The lunchtime news was correct too. By the evening news they had gone over to the dark side.
