    Hi,

I have managed to detect a small number of Draconids. I only just realised that using the UA2 software I needed to use the ULE_J6 baseline. The J5 sile does not detect Draconids. Attached is the Draconid meteor data, (date and timestamp).

It will be interesting to see the consolidated data at the end of the month.

Perhaps using SI units would be appropriate? Radians, Milli-radians etc. We might also ge rid of Angstroms!

One of the reasons for moving to Normandy, apart from the good food and drink, was the dark skies. I have been living here for 15 years, but I still marvel at the milky way,  which appears so bright that I don’t really need any dark adaption to see it. It becomes difficult to believe that people can’t see it. But I am reminded every time I visit family in the UK as to the high level of light pollution.

Interestingly the french view on outside lights is that they provide light for the burglars to help break in. If its all black they need to use a torch and can be seen.

Any campaign to limit night lighting gets my support. I would like everybody to be able to see what I can.

    Hi All,

Thank you for all the help and advice you offered. I think I need to sit down and go through all the info. In the mean time I am still working on my fixed camera Messier survey. See the members pages.

    All the best

My apologies! Cutting and pasting doesn’t work from word.

Well, I had thought I had added my surname! My account says its been updated but the display still shows the truncated form. Perhaps the site admin could have a look.

    Hi all,

If I remember correctly, one needs to use a tungsten based source. Attached are the spectrums of a “white” LED and a fluorescent.

    Grant,

I think it all depends. I note the 1100D is an oldish camera and as such will have an inferior sensor when compared to newer models.

I moved from a Nikon D80 to a D7200 and was amazed at the improvement. Even though they were in similar niches in the market. As far as I can see, it is the noise performance which seems to drive the overall results.

What would be interesting would be to compare 2 of the latest models from the top and bottom of the market.

The key functions I use, in my wide field work, are live view, the intervalometer and a low noise sensor.

    Regards

    Martin,

A sad end to an era. I will have nothing to do on Christmas day this year!

As I live in France I had a subscription to the Astronomie magasine. That also stopped publication this year. I can’t believe there is a lack of demand for astronomy products.

    James,

I would have to go for Patrick Moore’s – The Amateur Astronomer in the inspirational category. My first astronomy book, read and reread time and again. Although Norton’s Star Atlas would have to be up there too.

    Bill,

What SW do you use to plot the meteor intensity curve.

    Many thanks

    Steve,

Yes, I agree that there needs to be a group looking at spectroscopy. Whether it should be a sub-section of the variable star section needs to be considered. Perhaps it should be a “pan” sub group offering advice/support to all sections.

    Mark,

Do we really need this level of sophisication? In my experience of this sort of system, it is the maintenance workload that can be onerus. Is enough of our sharing that sensitive that we need to add this burden to the system. Would PGP not be a simpler alternative?

Sorry if I sound negative. I see the need to protect so parts of the BAA business but I suggest some careful analysis of the costs/benefits before commiting to this solution.

What about a montage of the current space probes. They are giving us a new view of the solar system.
