ParticipantThanks Jeremy,
I should have looked further back in this thread!
Glad it was interesting enough though. I hope you are ready on Thursday 🙂

ParticipantHi all,
This popped up on my news feed:
Which seemed to have a somewhat accurate prediction of eruption of TCrB on Thursday 27th March. I thought it was bit sensationalist/click baity but they did link to a paper (of which I haven’t reviewed in detail):
https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/2515-5172/ad8bba/ampdf
But in the abstract it is stated:
It is predicted that the next eruption should
appear around 27 March or 10 November 2025, or later.Which is hedging ones bets I think! Although the article has taken “around 27 March” to mean “on 27 March”.
I suppose some exposure to the general public is good, even if it is setting people up for disappointment?

ParticipantThat is truly impressive, thanks for sharing!
The quality of equipment and knowledge that amateurs have available to them is incredible. Once I have got back into visual variable observing I intended to start pulling together some tracking (a mount) to do some DSLR observations. I then intend to follow this with a telescope (my dob being unsuitable) and a dedicated astro camera.
This thread has already been inspirational for one potential variable/exoplanet observer!
All the best,
DavePS I agree that you should boast about this on other fora!

ParticipantI could just about find it, and make a measurement – however it was quite challenging as there was a lot of moisture in the air and it was very low on the horizon. I couldn’t see it in my 8×56 binoculars, but found it in my 8″ Dob and 30mm eyepiece (40x). I will upload a record.

ParticipantCoincidentally I am in the last week of my holiday in Cornwall. And also coincidentally I have brought my telescope! The skies here on the Helford estuary are very dark, especially to the South, but there is a lot of high cloud tonight in the South.
