Gordon MackieParticipantNot in the press or media, but did spot the attached some time ago. A bit ludicrous, but I suppose in a positive way this “fun fact” might get (kids) enquiring minds thinking about the large distances involved in all things space related?

Gordon MackieParticipantI was out imaging the Milky Way and luckily spotted this. I only found out afterwards that it was the LandSat 9 satellite. It was very bright and obvious, and moved across the sky quite quickly. So to keep the exposure as short as possible (to minimise motion blur) I put the ISO as high as it would go on my camera (Canon 760D, ISO12800, 1 sec). The end result isn’t the best quality, but it captured a really memorable moment.
Gordon MackieParticipantInteresting details Denis.
I stayed in this hotel a few months ago and the hotel manager gave a brief of the observatory one evening. I didn’t know it was there until spotting it on arrival, so it turned out to be a nice bonus to the few days in the area. Attached are a few images showing info about the telescope displayed in the hotel. It looks similar to what you posted Denis, but also has some different info (I notice Dave Gavine gets a mention).
I’ve also attached an image of a rather nice sundial that is located above the entrance to the hotel.
