Hi Ken,
This has been fixed. I am replying with my test profile as it doesn’t have any extra website privileges, allowing me to do a proper test.
To update your profile image, navigate to:
Account > Web Profile > Edit > About yourself > Avatar
Then click Browse to select the image you want to use. Finally press the Update Profile button at the bottom.

Just to confirm we think this may be ‘fixed’, with the caveat the cause of the problem was not identified. It would be useful for members to try changing their display names to their preferred name and then post back here if they spot it changing again.
