Nick HewittParticipant
Every presentation was a winner. The whole weekend was just marvellous.
Nick HewittParticipantSuch a great loss. Bob said he was feeling better last weekend so this news was doubly shocking. He was a true driving force in the battle against light pollution and a lovely, gentle man.
Nick HewittParticipantGreat fun. Almost back to normal.
Nick HewittParticipantI had fully intended to be there in person – I had a ticket!- but was “inconvenienced”. So it was marvellous to join by Zoom, the quality was excellent and the event most enjoyable.
Nick HewittParticipantGreat memories Pauline. 5 years on, scary! Hoping to meet up for real next year.
10 November 2020 at 11:12 pm in reply to: Observing and Cataloguing Nebulae and Star Clusters #583356Nick HewittParticipantIt is indeed an exceptionally useful and enjoyable book. I am pleased to have a hardback copy. The paperback should be on all serious Deep Sky enthusiasts’ bookshelf.
Nick HewittParticipantI hope it is not doing a McNeil! There are not many variable nebulae, and I don’t wish to be be made redundant just yet.
Nick HewittParticipantOwen’s list is pretty comprehensive ( as we would expect). My only addition(s) would be the Stephen James O’Meara series from Cambridge. “The Secret Deep” and “Hidden Treasures“ have expansive entries on PNs. The first volume on the Messier objects is not really needed and the second ( the C……… objects) has a few. Some may be irritated by the rather idiosyncratic nicknames on offer but the meat of the info is good.
Nick HewittParticipantAgreed, very well done Andy, and all contributors to date.
Nick HewittParticipantWhat!!! No cider?!!!

Nick HewittParticipantHi Garion
The BAA has a good basic map available. If you have a smart phone, there is a good App called Moon Globe. I am not sure of the cost but it is very flexible. I use it.
hope that helps

Nick HewittParticipantHi James,
Very nicely captured. Pop a copy on the Community page too? Good to see it in colour.
Nick HewittParticipanti am very sad to hear of Maurice’s death. He was such a nice man, very patient when helping me with my early use of CCDs, and a wise adviser during my presidency. A loss to the amateur astronomy observing community indeed.
Nick HewittParticipantA lovely tribute Ron to one of the BAA greats. I wish I had known him.

14 February 2018 at 11:50 am in reply to: BAA DVD/Blu-ray record of the 2017 August 21 total solar eclipse #579123Nick HewittParticipantI bet they didn’t play “Total eclipse” from Handel’s Samson. Mind you, it is an aria after the strongman had been blinded, so just as well.
Nick HewittParticipantAh, a great pity. One of the great characters of amateur astronomy. Fun to chat with, and indeed travel with (the 2001 eclipse in Zimbabwe wasespecially memorable).
29 January 2017 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Visual Observing impacted by loss of Sensory Balance #577862Nick HewittParticipantHi Keith
It may be worth a trial of prochlorperazine (Stemetil) to see if your dizziness can be damped down. The only downside of such a trial that I can see is that it can induce drowsiness. Please don’t sue me if you wake up frozen to the telescope after 4 hours use!
