comet image submission to the BAA Comet Archive

Hello all I notice the increasing number of excellent images that are being posted of comet C/2023A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, if members want their images to be Archived in the BAA Comet Archive they need to be submitted to cometobs@britastro.org using the procedures outlined at this link:

Denis is correct that, generally, you need to submit your images to the Comet Section directly if you want them to be included in the archive but I’m happy to make a special case for BAA members for this comet while it is a bright object. I’ll collect suitable images from the Observations gallery and will send them to Denis for inclusion in the section archive as long as there is sufficient information (date/time/location/instrument/FoV) included in your submission to make this worthwhile.

Generally, though, please consider submitting your images to the Section through the route described by Denis above.

Hi folks,

Just a comment that I’m aware it’s really annoying that the images of C/2023 A3 are currently split between two galleries:

This is due to there being two duplicate entries for the comet in the image gallery object database. There are supposed to be lots of checks to stop this from happening, but I’ve clearly mucked something up. This affects quite a few other comets too. I think the script which scans the MPC website for new comets, and the script which ingests the Comet Section archive, are automatically creating these duplicate entries. Grrargh!

I will fix this and merge the galleries as soon as I can, but I fear I can’t easily fix this immediately. In meantime, feel free to tag your images with either “C/2023 A3” or “C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)”, and eventually they’ll end up in the same place.
