    That got your attention!

An approximately 1-m diameter object discovered by the Mt. Lemmon survey (G96) this morning is due to impact the Earth at 16:39 UTC this evening (2024 Sept 4). The object is currently designated CAQTDL2 on the NEOCP. The predicted impact location is 123.6 E, 18.2 N, around 150 km east of the northernmost part of the Philippines. An object that small should safely burn up in the atmosphere but it should be a spectacular sight. The local time will be 00:39 on Sept 5 so it will be dark there.

    This will be the ninth impactor which was discovered before impact following 2008 TC3, 2014 AA, 2018 LA, 2019 MO, 2022 EB5, 2022 WJ1, 2023 CX1 and 2024 BX1.

I’ve attached the September Newsletter from ESA’s NEO Coordination Centre which gives a summary of the detection and impact of the asteroid.

    Alex.
