    After reading the interesting interview in the August Journal with John Campbell Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, I emailed him to order his book “Oor Big Braw Cosmos”. Not receiving a reply I googled for info on how to order elsewhere and discovered to my surprise and dismay that he had passed away on 16 Nov.

    I wanted to pass this news on as I am sure John Brown is known to a number of BAA members, and will be mentioned in the Journal.

    Such sad news. A lovely man – and an entertaining magician! He once lent me a book on Chas. Piazzi Smyth, when he had never seen me before (I did return it!). Had a brief discussion with him about Wolf-Rayet stars, which I fondly recall. Another good astronomer gone too soon.
