This nova in was discovered independently by Itagaki (Japan) on 2024 Sep. 09.436 UT at unfiltered CCD mag 11.4 and by Pearce (W. Australia) on 2024 Sep. 04.474 UT at unfiltered CCD mag 11.3.
It has the designation V1725 Sco.

    It is located at (J2000.0) 17 06 46.54 -35 28 06.8 so it is pretty far south.

A fine image by Mazin Younis from his remote telescope in Morocco: https://britastro.org/observations/observation.php?id=82105

Gary Poyner used a remote telescope to image it:

Maybe the BAA should collaborate with the 2SPOT team so we can get spectra of this and other southern novae…?

    Hi Mike,
The team is composed of very experienced spectroscopists active on the spectroscopy forums, so they probably knew of the nova about the same time as Jeremy. Collaborations tend to be by BAA members on observing campaigns and other projects. In fact many of our spectroscopists are active across a variety of international projects.
    Cheers,
Andy (with my BAA Spectroscopy Database Manager hat on)
