Announced on CBAT on July 29, Atel 16743 confirms as a Nova.
No announcements from AAVSO yet, although a chart and sequence are available using the designation PNV J19430751+2100204 or N Vul 2024.
Currently at magnitude 9.2CV (AAVSO IDB)

Get well soon Gary!

2 August 2024 at 7:54 am #624038Mr Ian David SharpParticipantHi all,
I uploaded a series of V mags to the database from last night. It was at around 10.7 V.

2 August 2024 at 8:58 am #624041Gary PoynerParticipantThis Nova now has the offical designation V615 Vul.
I’ve asked Andy to add this to the DB, in addition to N Vul 2024 and PNV J19430751+2100204.

It’s a very slow decline, almost steady over the past 2 nights.

Eight consecutive nights from my C11 in Spain shown here – the graceful decline continues…

There are also a few 17th and 18th mag stars within a few arcsec that will come into play as it fades. Attached image taken earlier this evening as it got dark.

I managed a few measurements last night. The slow fade continues.

I’ve been monitoring V615 Vul in R, V and B since early August and I’ve noticed in the last 5 or since days that the R and V mags have closed right up. See attached.
Not sure if this is of any significance?
Cheers

10 September 2024 at 4:03 pm #624992Jeremy ShearsParticipantHello Ian, the abrupt drop in R ~1.4 mag last week is intriguing. I presume reduction in H-Alpha emission. Be interesting if there are spectra from around the same to see what’s happening there. Jeremy

The spectra in the ARAS database
https://aras-database.github.io/database/novavul2024.html
seem to suggest an overall drop in both continuum and H alpha from 20240828-20240907 with H alpha increasing slightly relative to the continuumCheers

Hi all,
I must apologise. I have been wrongly using the B mags for my R filters since 5th September! I am in the process of replacing them in the database!
Ian.
