ParticipantImages. Is there a way to attach images to posts?
I am using Chrome and can’t see a way.George Carey
ParticipantI struggled to log in – I worried that maybe maybe membership had lapsed.
Once in I made a post (variable stars section) but could not see how to attach an image.George Carey
ParticipantVery low over my roof – first image could not see it at all.
Extremely poor seeing. Single image, 600 seconds, 10″ reflector

ParticipantSeems to be a slow rising nova – now mag 17.2.

ParticipantHi Robin,
I tried to open the FITS file of the spectrum as on the TNS page – Maxim will not open it.

What am I doing wrong?

ParticipantSuperb work. Has this ever been done before – an amateur classification of an extra-galactic nova?
George Carey
ParticipantYes indeed, much brighter.

ParticipantSome near the edge where the image overlap could be from a variety of causes.
I aligned the frames with Registar.
GIF too big for the forum, so loaded here: http://geoastro.co.uk/january2019/M31seq.gif

ParticipantWell done Robin – may be a few clear hours tonight from my location.
You are right about the M31 season drawing to a close.
My image quality goes to pieces around the middle of February.

ParticipantAlso photometry from ATLAS_Bot1 and ZTF_AMPEL_MSIP.

ParticipantI have filled in gaps in my data with remote observations using iTelescopes in Spain, and filtered images from Sofia University (Atel #12268).
The nova is now near the limit for my equipment so not much more can be obtained.

ParticipantMost impressive Robin!

ParticipantI put the data from last night into Maxim. Much more involved procedure.
Average value= 17.11

ParticipantI tried Aperture today – very similar results. Mag 16.6.
If I increase the aperture the mag rises to 16.3.
Pinpoint gave fairly consistent values at 16.8

ParticipantI have the centroid at radius 3.
These are values I get when I change the radius:
centroid magn. radius 1 18.0 2 16.9 3 16.5 4 16.5 5 16.4 6 16.3 7 16.2 8 16.2 At radius 3 it looks like all of the nova is in the circle.
I am never sure what is best.

ParticipantDifficult to miss tonight.
