Which motor have you ordered ?

And why can’t you use a slotted bracket ?

From your posts I am minded to go with the Skywatcher, any reason not to ?

Alun,

RVO say Skywatcher or JMI will do the job.

Its not a question of money, but what works.

Bulkiness should not be a problem, I use a film changing bag to keep the unit light tight which should also accommodate the motor.

I suggest a slotted bracket would be good if the belt needs adjustment.

This is a great improvement.

Looking at the link its difficult to see how the JMI would work without some modification, there appears to be no shaft correct ?

Is there one similar to the Skywatcher ? which appears to bolt straight on to the Lhires body.

I use Team viewer or Tight VNC PC to PC to control the mount remotely via a 25m Maplin Cat6 Ethernet cable.

BEWARE you will need to protect / sleeve it when installing against foxes, it was bitten into but survived.

I can open / close the motorised roll off roof remotely with a key fob.

Shame that motor is a bit bulky, I assume you don’t have it permanently set up in an observatory.

Wouldn’t a bigger case be a cheaper option than another motor and having to replace what works ?

Please can you post a picture showing how and where the motor is attached / bolted to the Lhires.

How many holes did you have to drill ?

This is a worthwhile modification.

The Skywatcher flip mirror is adjustable up / down by turning a grub screw with allen key at the bottom of the unit.

This is the electronic / visual finder I use Atik 314 – Skywatcher flip mirror – Borg 45 ed modular which I just finished setting up incase of a camera or computer failure.

BUT there appears to be no sideways adjustment (only up and down for the mirror) for getting the object in the centre of the eyepiece crosshairs, which is disappointing but at least the object is in the field of view !

Congratulations on your achievement.

To be able to build an echelle spectrograph and get it to work is not easy.

With a special interest in Spectroscopy I feel so privileged to be amongst such a talented bunch of like minded people.

Perhaps one day you will give a presentation to the BAA on how you accomplished such a worthwhile project.

I am especially interested in the technical side.

We are lucky indeed to have software that filters out this nuisance.

Its only a matter of time before they arrive where I live, but at least the lights are switched off from 1 to 5am.

I have seen both types at night next to each other, a strange site !

Its certainly not a cheap hobby but if you want to do scientifically useful work its worth the expense and the rewards.

I have not heard of this problem with the 414ex, but the one I had suffered from interference fringes especially visible on the flats, caused by the glass cover over the chip, so I exchanged for the 460 ex which works well.
