Tracey SnelusParticipant
I am rather amazed at the portable electron microscope. Very pleased that you found one on the day. I’d love to know with certainty whether what I have are micrometeorites or not.
Tracey SnelusParticipantI have been looking to find a university that would be able to offer additional analysis. If this is something that you are able to help with I would be incredibly interested and it would be nice to know whether I have a micrometeorite or not!
Tracey SnelusParticipantOnce I had started I have so far found it fascinating and I am really looking forward to seeing what I find and if I even find anything at all. So far, I have some candidates to start looking at so I will share what I find once I take some observations and photos.
Tracey SnelusParticipantBrilliant, thank you for the link. I will take a look
11 January 2021 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Detection leading to continuous recordings with UFO Capture #583679Tracey SnelusParticipantHello Bill
Thank you for the feedback. I am running on windows 10. I seem to have resolved the issue with the HD version of the UFO capture. There is an option to ignore blackouts and by selecting that I am now able to run successfully although discussion with SonatoCo they didnt think that this would have been a resolution but I have proven it by checking and unchecking the options which allows me to either replicate or eliminate the issue that I had.
I have been running the system for one week now with some good captures. Within the first 5 minutes of switching the system on I caught a nice bright meteor. I have tweaked the settings so that most of the detections that I have are genuine apart from the odd aeroplane and what I think are either bats or birds given the times of the detections early evening and dawn. I have now refined my profile for accuracy and started the run through the UFO analyser to make sure that I am able to perform the analysis correctly.
With regards to Nematode network I will certainly be joining in, I have used the site and technical notes along the way which I have found to be incredibly useful in getting me this far.
Tracey SnelusParticipantWonderful post and great to see how everyone is making a recordings of their astronomical year. I certainly need to up my game on the record keeping and would be interesting to know how many clear nights we actually get here in North Wales. From my observation notebook it would appear that, like many. the summer months were the best for observations. I haven’t managed to image as often as I would have liked and this is both a combination of working too hard being tired at night and also time setting up and perfecting the setup. Comet NeoWise and my image of the veil nebula have been my highlights. I’ve just been through the meteor detector radio data and have 61995 detections for the year.
Into 2021 I need to keep a record of this and see how this pans out come the same time next year.
Thanks
Tracey SnelusParticipantThank you for sharing the above information. I was expecting for the rates to keep on escalating up especially with the peak expected at earlier hours in the morning. However I have soon learnt that the predictions do not always tie up to what I observe. I hate to admit it but I did take great pleasure in listening to the pings especially when they kept on coming through. As you also noted there were some really nice long traces coming through. The rates have dropped pretty significantly now my peak since midnight has been 16 hits.
Thanks again
Tracey
Tracey SnelusParticipantWhat a great range of questions, not sure how well I will do
Tracey SnelusParticipantHello
Thank you for the post. I am certainly happy to contribute my data in anyway that I can. I have been detecting meteors using the GRAVES radar for sometime (with various level of success). I am also currently starting to build a video meteor detector so that I can contribute to the UK MON and NEMATODE where possible. I will take a look at the websites for more info.
Thanks
Tracey
Tracey SnelusParticipantThank you. Such a shame to hear about the weather as it was a good display too. I am sure you will get your turn. Living next to the snowdonia mountain range, I understand the frustration with cloud and rain.
Tracey SnelusParticipantThank you for the information.
Kind regards
Tracey
Tracey SnelusParticipantThank you all for your suggestions. There are certainly some that I can use for future club projects. I just hope that it will spark interest from the group and that we can get involved in a project together.
Tracey SnelusParticipantRadio astronomy is something that I am interested in. I have a couple of meteor and SID detectors set up. I have given talks in the past to the society and maybe we could have a build your own workshop.
Thank you
Tracey SnelusParticipantDear Paul and Tracie.
I do like the idea of variable star observations, especially naked eye as it is so simple to do. I think this is certainly one that I could present to the society especially as it has been relative to some of the lectures that we have had over the last 12 months.
Thank you
