Hyperstar Use.

I have just acquired a US built Celestron C11 GPS SCT and a wedge and am investigating using it for deep sky imaging.

I have been reading up on the Hyperstar lens and after a review of users of this lens at the Winchester Weekend meeting, found only one member from 140 odd attending.

I found that very surprising.

Am I missing something?

Hyperstar

Hello Edward,

if you type "hyperstar" into the Search box towards the top right of the page you will find some images taken with the hyperstar.

All the best,

Jeremy

Review by David Arditti

It's a little while ago now, but David Arditti gave a memorable review of Hyperstar at the 2011 Deep Sky Section meeting. I happen to remember it because I wrote the meeting up for the Journal.

If you hover over the "Publications" tab at the top of this website, and select "Downloads", and then go to "Journal Archive", and then "2011 August", you can find my write-up of David's talk starting on page 245.

I don't know whether the technology has moved on since 2011, or whether David's opinions have changed, but the impression he gave seven years ago was that Hyperstar was a bit of a nightmare to install / use!

Collimation

I recall him saying collimation was hard work and important if you were using a large sensor.

Another Hyperstar user

Another Hyperstr user is Grep Parker who spake at last years Deep Sky Section meeting - though not all about the Hyperstar, though he did mention it in the task. Hopefully this to the video link will work: https://britastro.org/video/7951/9337

Hyperstar Use.

Yes Callum the vidio did work and thanks for that.

I have Greg's book 'Making Beautiful Deep-Sky Images' and that's where I came across the Hyperstar originally.

As Greg says in his talk, he can't understand why all beginners to astro imaging do not use one.

I am going to take the plunge and hopefully produce something worthy of publication in the BAA gallery.

Will have fun trying.

Thanks all for the advice.

Good luck with the project

Good luck with the project Edward - I will look forward to seeing your results.

It would also be interesting to hear about your experience with the Hyperstar - an idea article for the Equipment and techniques section.

All the best,
Callum
