Gary PoynerParticipant
Thanks for alerting us to this Jeremy. A really cracking Nova! Just linked this to CVnet.

6 October 2024 at 3:37 pm in reply to: GOTO065054.49+593624.51: Discovery of a bright optical galactic transient #625525Gary PoynerParticipantMy SLOOH image, taken on Oct 06.1208UT measures at 13.401CV using the AAVSO chart and sequence.
Ian: I’ll be uploading my CCD observations to the BAAVSS database shortly. The software will detect that this is a new object, and will create a new file with the name I upload it with – which is GOTO065054.49+593624.51 I can’t see any alias in VSX, so it will be this long winded nonsense I’m afraid.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThanks Ian. I had 13.2 visual last night, and I also have an unfiltered Slooh image which I haven’t measured yet.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThis looks to be a short duration event, but brightness can change quickly with BL Lac, so it might brighten again. Keep looking!
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantBack to 17.08C on Sep 8.885 UT using Slooh. Are we now heading back to quiescence?
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThanks Magnus. Yes, the fourth rebrightening is now underway.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantNow in the third rebrightening.

Gary PoynerParticipantFine work Magnus. I’ll add this to the CVnet page now!
Well done,
GaryGary PoynerParticipantMinimum is around mag 20, so it’not over yet!
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantUZ Boo had faded to 16.66C by last night, so now we’ll be looking for rebrightenings over the next few days.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantGood work Magnus. These are the first Sh I’ve seen during this outburst. Can you continue to follow to see how they develop?
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantSteve is a member of one of my societies (Bromsgrove AS). He gave a practical demonstration of his cloud chamber and particle tracks at a monthly meeting several months back. It is very impressive, and great fun to watch. He’s a top speaker too!
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantPaul,
Whatever suits you really. The outbursts are so rare that t/s is always welcomed, but if your busy on another project then stick with that.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThanks both.
Heavy cloud here in Birmingham, but just secured an image using SLOOH in Tenerife. A quick look at the live view matches your mid 12 estimates. I won’t get the fits file until mid morning tomorrow.
Keep going if you can.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThey never stop, do they Jeremy! Thank goodness!
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantGood work Ian. So, no superoutburst then. Oh well. Wouldn’t be much fun if we could predict them.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThis Nova now has the offical designation V615 Vul.
I’ve asked Andy to add this to the DB, in addition to N Vul 2024 and PNV J19430751+2100204.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantGood work Ian and Magnus. Amplitude still quite large! I wonder if this will re-brighten?
Is this data merged with the 16.3V companion, or has that been extracted? Just curious.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantI had a short break in clouds last night – 31st (before torrential rain and storms), and made a visual estimate of 10.2 with a 22cm. Might not be my best estimate, as struggling with Covid – and feeling pretty sorry for myself.
Gary
Gary PoynerParticipantThank you both Mike and Ian.
That’s an interesting time series Ian. Quite an amplitude of variation during that rapid fade. Don’t have much to compare it with though, so we’ll have to see what happens. The duration of the outburst points to a normal one, but as I mentioned above, this might be a precursor – so if you can, please keep your (digital) eye on it during the next week if possible.
Lovely day here yesterday, but low cloud came over as darkness fell, so only a CCD measure from me…
July 30.0861 16.522C (Slooh 2)
Cheers,
