Mr Jack MartinParticipant
Alan,
You are not getting in my way.
This information was previously unknown.
Thanks for your efforts.

Mr Jack MartinParticipantAlan,
Doubtful, Blethyn’s telescopes date from around 1650.
Where did you get this information from ?
Its possible he was a relative of John Bleyghton a mathematical instrument maker in London around 1624-54. He was succeeded by his son John II. They also signed with the names Blaton – Blyton – Blighton.
Thanks for your efforts.

Mr Jack MartinParticipantRoy,
I discovered this telescope on a visit to Knebworth House in July 2019.
This is no 3 of only 2 other known Blethyn telescopes in the World.
Its been on display for decades unnoticed!
I am writing a short article about it for the Antique Telescope Society.

Mr Jack MartinParticipantBill,
Probably from the same parent body.
Nice spectra.
Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantRay,
I don’t think Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Heston Blumenthal, Rachael Ray, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Paul Hollywood, Anne-Sophie Pic, Clare Smyth, Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Emma Bengtsson, Ainsley Harriot, John Trode, Marcus Wareing, some of whom are Michelin star chefs would agree with your comments, me included.
Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantDavid,
Just a bit of fun and its different, thanks for including in E&T News.
Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantSome thoughts:
The planets in our solar system all come from the same building blocks.
Bacterial life in Venusian atmosphere is a theory, but Anding’s comment is plausible.
Or, have they discovered some unknown chemistry ?
Spectroscopy was the tool used to make the discovery !

Mr Jack MartinParticipantBill,
A good result, more interesting than un-interesting !

Mr Jack MartinParticipantAstroshot,
What do you use the secure the eye bolts, can see something but not in detail ?

Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantRoy,
Thanks for the link, very informative.

Mr Jack MartinParticipantAstroshot,
Ingenious ! how long and what thread are the eyebolts ?
Regards,
Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantAndy,
I don’t mind at all.
I thought Schmit C’s suffered from this, there was an issue with focussing, after winding the focussing knob backwards and forwards a few times (which has to be done regularly), spectra are much sharper, perhaps it was that.

Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantXilman,
Thanks for your feedback.
I have an Atik 314 mono attached to the 4 inch refractor, so the filter you recommend would be a good option, as I want to obtain research-quality results.
I have a Canon 400D DSLR, but from your description, the first option seems more straightforward.

Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantRobin,
Thanks for your efforts.

Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantDavid,
These bolts were not supplied with my previously owned C14.
I just have the 2 transport locking bolts 1″ long.
Rother Valley optics cannot obtain these accessories. I will try 365 Astronomy.
Regards,
Jack
Mr Jack MartinParticipantThank you all for your responses which filter(s) do you recommend and from where ?
Regards,
Jack
