Allan Chapman was a longstanding and much-loved friend, and at one time vice-president, of Newbury Astronomical Society, giving many erudite talks at our Christmas dinners totally without notes as was his wont, and while consuming his favourite fish and chips and drinking vast quantities of tea! He will be much missed.

Totally agree, Alan Dowdell and myself thought it was a really worthwhile meeting, thanks to all involved! Good to meet old colleagues from the Leicester society too. We even had a celebratory visit from the ISS which flew right over the pub we were drinking in!
Apparently, the philosopher Descartes was given special dispensation from the Jesuits to have extended lie-ins, as he always had his most important thoughts while in bed….that’s where I’ve been going wrong…
