Lunar Eclipse Tonight

Here, out in the boonies, not far from Salisbury, the cloud is 9/10th but thin enough to see the Moon through. Its kind of looking 50:50 as to whether I will see anything at all.

How is everyone else doing?

Lunar Eclipse

Clear at the start here in Norfolk. Saw the shadow edge moving across the moon all the way until 4.30am then total cloud cover. Saw a slither 5 mins later and that was it. Could see the part in shadow had a reddish hue but the effect was diminished somewhat with the bright edge. What always strikes me with this phenomenon is how obvious the curvature of the Earth's shadow is and why the reason for this wasn't realised by most of the ancient civilisations.

P.S. Nice images Nick, I thought it would still be clear in Chelmsford, my cloud cover came in from the NW.

Lunar Eclipse

Totally clear here in East Anglia (Thorpe-le-Soken) and -5 degrees C. A very dark eclipse, I thought, and the end of totality was very impressive with a slow naked eye diamond-ring effect.  Also nice to see Castor and Pollux pointing at the Moon throughout the event.  As the eclipse concluded Venus and Jupiter is the south-east took over.  All told a brilliant morning event.

Nothing here

In Salisbury it was hopeful when I went to bed, but at 02:50 and 04:15 it was thick cloud.... The sort of cloud that says, there may be a moon in there somewhere but you've no idea where.

Ho hum. Perhaps I should have moved east when I retired.

Lunar eclipse - nearly

Clouded out till nearly 4 am. Quick through window check and then out on to the drive with the camera just as it clouded back over. A second view ca 5.15 am with nice colour then back to cloud again after a couple of minutes. The cloudy sky was noticeably much darker than when a bright full moon is about.I always had a feeling that full moons came with clear skies. At least I saw for a few minutes two bits of the event (but no piccies).Fellow tykes north of me had some success with images.

Possible impact flash during lunar eclipse

There have been several reports of a possible impact flash in the Byrgius-Lagrange area of the Moon, near the western limb, during the 21 January eclipse. It occurred at 04.41 UT and several observers managed to capture images of the event. There will be a full report in the February Lunar Section Circular, but in the meantime I would be grateful if members could check any images or video captures taken around that time.

I'll check out the 105 images I took during a mostly clear but very frosty night here in Leigh on sea Essex. See my montage below.

Image from 04:41:33

Perfect conditions for the eclipse (but not for someone like me with a heavy cold!) here in Uckfield, East Sussex. I took over 100 images, between 04:12 and 05:53 (before the -5.7C got the better of me!), and this one is from 04:41:33 but doesn't show any impact flashes - not that I'd expect it to, of course.   Good luck with any others taken at this time!

Missed flash

Total cloud cover was forecast. Outlook seemed better in SE England so at midnight I started driving SE in search of a clearer sky.  Found them at Cobham Services 79 miles later.  Sky deteriorated quickly, intermittent views,  I was taking a sequence of images but clouds intervened about 30 sec before flash.  This is at 5.08, 2 sec exposure with 6D using ETX125, the star on the right that has just been revealed by the moon is 7th magnitude HD 67150.

Nice occultation

This is a really nice image showing an egress at eclipse.  Thanks for sharing Steve.  I was clouded out
