Hi Paul,I have just switched on thread subscription (well earlier this morning), so you can get notified about those threads you are interested in. There is no automatic notification on replies available, but I think the thread subscription is better, as people can choose what they want to be notified about, and there will not be too much email clutter. Thanks, Callum

Hi Guy’s.Despite the poor sound quality. I toughly enjoyed watching Gary’s talk. That 20" Is certainly some telescope. I take my hat of to you given you’re light pollution.Your accent didn’t bother me.

Actually I don’t think it would be as good as I first thought. – What about a CfDS page (Campaign for Dark Skies) for them to tell you who they have got to point lights down etc.Duncan

Thanks once again Gary.I will look into AIP4Win, but I will do some reading up first.I think, I will sign UP on pay-day, for membership of TA.

Hi Paul,I use AIP4WIN, although there are others available (Maxim DL) to which I am totally ignorant. Others may wish to comment here.Yes it’s fairly easy to do (using AIP), but there are pitfalls of course, as in most things. I had 30 minutes tuition from Jeremy Shears at a VS meeting a few years ago, and that was all I needed (a good teacher though). I was a complete novice, being a visual observer for all of my observing life. If you decide to go that way, then there are plenty of people in the BAA VS community who will gladly help you out should you need it. And you can include me in that.Joining TA is a two way thing, and your submitted observations/images will be of benefit to ‘TA’ as well as ‘TA’ being of benefit to your observing. There! Never one to miss a sales pitch :-)Gary

Hi Gary,I have a couple of questions for you.1. What software do you use for Photometry? 2. How difficult is Photometry. Can a novice like me do it?

Whoops! Forgot to say that Paul’s drawing is a good representation of the belt I observed in terms of colour, position and breadth.

I have observed a broadish pinkish/orangish belt in the northern hemisphere on 2 occasions this apparition: faintly on the 27th. February (AII/III T4/5); and easily discernable and more orange on 7th. April (AIII T4/5).I am unsure whether the belt was the NEB or NTB. It seemed rather far N for the NEB but too broad to be an NTB.

Interesting. I don’t recollect ever having seen or percived the EB or the Tr zones/bands in any shade of red this apparition. To me they always look some shade of yellow or cream colour.Andrea T.

Yes, GRIP does correct lens distortions, by first calibrating against a photo of a regular grid taken through the same optical arrangement. I have made this more accessible to end users in my latest version: initial description here: http://www.grelf.net/new.html
