Great Pics Pauline and well done for taking the time to dig these out. It would be fun if we could have a place on the website for each Winchester group photo thru the years, but I do not have the access to go about it. I wonder could we create it as an entity on the Forum and allow people to post to it? Anyone know?

Finola Finlay, who very kindly helped me in my researches on Agnes Clerke’s life, has published a rather lovely tribute to her and her family in her blog from West Cork.

Finola, an archaeologist, is also an authority on the neolithic monuments of Ireland for those with an interest in astro-archaeology.

I have to say though that the microclimate in West Cork is rather balmy!

Well done to Ann Davies and her team for a great Winchester. She had to cope with many challenges in getting the show on the road but it was a weekend to remember. Great speakers all and a wonderful injection of humour by Eric and Ernie!

I presume chocolate telescopes are generally made of dark chocolate unless you want to observe the milky way..

After a week of no electricity in the area of the Observatory which shut us down, we are back rockin’ and rollin’.  Looks like the same capture.

Hi James, I attended an event at Rochester Cathedral last night along with 7 other miscreants from Crayford MHASD.  Mid Kent AS put on an excellent talk in the crypt of the Cathedral on the Apollo 11 Moon landing by one of their esteemed members, Prof David Rees, with an anthology of rarely seen video extracts of various Apollo missions, not just Apollo 11, and of the people that he had worked with at NASA at that time.  Very interesting.  I attach a photo of the Moon with a bunch of extremely enthused boy scouts underneath, sketching away to their hearts content!   Great fun.

    Hi James,

No, no extra cost.  We have been offered a great facility at the IoP, and one which offers us the opportunity to live stream for some meetings – as we did for the Christmas meeting last year, which members who could not make it to the meeting physically, very much appreciated.  The lecture theatre is also much larger than that at Burlington.

Dear Michael, William and Alex, Thank you for a truly great weekend. Great location, excellent hospitality, and lots of enthusiasm from top speakers and fellow attendees.  I hope this can be an annual event. Took the opportunity to visit Birr Castle on Sunday and to be reminded of the long history of collaboration between Ireland and the UK in the world of astronomy. Long may it continue, with great events such as yours. Hopefully we will see you all at Armagh for the next BAA Autumn meeting in September 2019.
