I can get the program to run now, but when I open an image, only the FITS header loads in the lower panel – the image itself does not load.

I note that the Command Prompt window states the following:

WARNING: Astrometry.net API key not found in configuration file [astroquery.astrometry_net.core]

WARNING: You need to manually edit the configuration file and add it [astroquery.astrometry_net.core]

WARNING: You may also register it for this session with AstrometryNet.key = ‘XXXXXXXX’ [astroquery.astrometry_net.core]

Ignore that. Got it going now.

Even though I installed python, it didn’t seem to register properly as a program.

I had to go to the Microsoft store to download and install it from there.

    Strange!

    Hi Maxim,

I downloaded the program, extracted it to a directory on my C: drive and installed Python

(I admit to not knowing anything about Python)

However, I’m unclear how to run “pip install -r requirements.txt”

Is that via the command prompt? It just gave an error ‘pip is not recognised…’

    Regards,

    Michael.

No signal detected on my Gravers radio system.

In fact, it was so quiet at the time, I wondered if Graves was actually active.

A previous fireball in this area generated a very strong signal.

    Michael.

I use a pair of eye bolts and they work very well.

Well done to everyone who captured the event!

    Raining here unfortunately.

    Works great.

How did you get Spectrum Lab to stream to YouTube?

Hasn’t been a problem for me Dominic, to be honest.

Have two cameras, both 6mm f0.75 lenses. Both keep their focus.

Out of curiosity, how do you get the Pi to detect the Watec camera?

    Beautiful capture!

Detected on my radio setup as well – see attached.

    Hi Xilman,

    Thanks for the offer.

I had some good communication with Jim Garlick re his pi systems, but they don’t quite do what I wanted.

I’m going to investigate another possible solution before I go any further.

    Thanks,

    Michael.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

@Robin: that solution won’t work I’m afraid as the camera only has 32-bit drivers and needs to be on a 32-bit PC (i.e. installing a 32-bit OS on the 64-bit chip won’t suffice)

To give a bit more detail perhaps:

I use my observatory PC with TheSkyX to control both by Paramount ME and camera.

During the summer months: Paramount ME + TEC140 + DMK Camera (Solar & Lunar Imaging) or SBIG ST8XME usb (Deep Sky Imaging)

Winter months: Change the OTA over to a C14 + Watec910HX/RC (Occultation imaging) or SBIG ST1001E (deep sky).

When not imaging, I also use the same PC for a meteor camera and meteor radio detection with a FunCube Dongle, Spectrum Lab and homemade yagi.

So, the PC needs to reasonably decent with the latest version of TheSkyX as far as I am concerned and so I don’t want to be rolling back to an older slower version.

@Callum – I like your suggestion, thanks. I will explore it. I wonder if there is a way of using the pi (or other means) of becoming a relay for the camera to talk to the PC? i.e. replacing what the SBIG Ethernet2Parallel unit previously did. I really would like to be able to use the camera in TheSkyX for plate solving etc.

    Many Thanks,

    Michael.

    Hi Grant,

    They won’t work either unfortunately.

    Thanks anyway,

    Nice captures! Well done!

Too far out of my camera FOV and nothing on radio either.

Holding a camera up to the eyepiece is exactly how I got started in to astrophotography. Well worth getting a bracket. The Moon will give you loads of fun!
