    Hi kevin,

I use Maxim dl 6 where there is an option after calibration to guide on all the stars in the field rather than just the guide star. At one time I used PHD with but have found it much easier and more reliable. The other advantage is the point telescope here command. I have ASCOM pointing to The SkyX and Maxim links into this. I have T point add on which will allow very accurate polar alignment but also will correct any pointing errors giving a high degree of confidence. The other advantage of Maxim is the ability to use 2 cameras. I expect with the £/$ exchange rate this will be more expensive but is worth avoiding the frustration of spending hours centering the star.

    Cheers

I installed halogen bulbs in my light box.and they were OK

    Hi Kate,

I made a light box out of ply wood, lined it with white fablon cut a circular hole in the fron and fitted 4 lamps at the front behind the hole. I had a voltage variable control but you could also use a variable resister. Running on a 12 volt reglated transformer(Maplin) it was easy to adjust the flat ADU to about 30,000. Only problem you needed 2 people to a) hold it in front & b) take 16 flats. For the ALPY spectroscope the built in flat lamp is a easier option.

    Hi Robin,

Of course you are dead right, I had a nose piece screwed into the C thread, I think when it was fitted to the filter wheel the nose piece was attached. I went out to my workshop and removed it and it fits perfectly.

    Thank you for your advice

    Hi

Could you advise the limiting magnitude for a 150 mm Refractor

    Thanks

    David,

    Yes, Many thanks

Some guidance on how to purchase the Alpy spectragraph with the 25% discount would be helpful as I assume the company would not know those who would qualify.

in reply to: Powered USB Hubs #577069

I have a USB hub which can handle multiple inputs in my case the filter wheel, main camera and guide camera. This feeds into a 5m cable that is connected to the lap top. Using Maxim DL; The Kenderick 12 volt USB hub provides connectivity and is powered by a Maplin Regulated Transformer. This also powers the dew controller and the mount Drive.

The planiterium software runs through a seperate cable to the mount

    Hazel,

Thank you for pointing out the article in the journal.

I see that Unihedron has 2 versions, The SQM and the LE version the later consiferable more expensive. I will be using the meeter to asse exposure times for CCD images before sky backround light becames significant and guess most people will be using the cheeper version

    Cheers

Fogged up in Bournemouth but great shots in Essex.

I have found any easy way to place the asteriod in SKY X and this may be available in other software planeterian  software.

The path is input; small solar system bodies; asteriods small data base; name. Paste the name and OK results in download from the web. Rather easier than the route via the minor planet centre.
