Never ceases to amaze me each night I observe it. I hope it continues for a long time. I hope there will be a paper on what is going on with iy.

Yes I find variables very interesting and I’m adding to my list as objects rise above the houses behind me. V1405 never ceases to amaze me. Thank you for your wonderful encouragement

I’d be surprised if it goes ahead, and not a zoom meeting

AHH so that was the elusive 1979 QB an asteroid, at least its looking like Nova And 1979 and LL And are the same with an error in the position.

The last few nights here have been very hazy with patchy cloud and andromeda is currently over a row of LED streetlights from my house!

Could it also be 1979 QB if anyone has got The Astronomer vol 16 page152 to compare the information with the above.

I’ve found this reference to Nova 1979 QB, the link below gives a reference to The Astronomer Vol 16 ppage 152

I wonder if this is the same object?

Could the difference be epoch 1950 for the IAU notification as opposed to epoch 2000 for Simbad

Thanks for the link it was a very interesting read. I see there were some observations from South Wales, it must have been very low on the horizon. Where I live in Risca just outside Newport we had very bad haze so I packed up observing early and only made one observation and that was of V1405 with difficulty.

Very interesting regarding the advice from Seymour, mine has a cluster of 8 or 9 pinholes. I would have thought felt marker on glass would rub off. Getting a good density of correction fluid might be interesting as the last one I used was very watery.

Ive gone over to using a Lacerta Herschel wedge but also have Baader solar film filter which has no pin holes in it at all.

I wonder if the coating degrades over time

I’d be very interested in finding out too as I have a Seymour white light glass solar filter which has small pinholes in which I can’t remember seeing there before. I too wonder if they have a shelf life?

Visible without binoculars but only just through the light pollution from Newport and Cardiff. Patchy cloud and nova was going behind trees when a patch cleared sufficiently for me to get an observation in. Then I had to balance on top of a wall holding my 20×80’s, our elderly neighbour seemed surprised! After 5 years living here she hasn’t got used to an amateur astronomer living next door. I’ll upload to database later.

Nice to see another bright Nova appear

seems to be fading quickly, easily visible in my 20×70 binoculars on Wednesday 28th but last night the 1st August  I couldn’t see it. Was going to get my telescope out but clouds rolled in just as I set up.

Awful seeing last night, haze and patchy cloud, managed to get 1 visual observation with my 10 inch which I’ll upload late. Weather forecast doesn’t look good for the next couple of night. Skies around here Risca just outside Newport in Wales do have a lot of light pollution

This selection guide might be useful as I’ve used several of their products in various jobs over the years

Have you tried Gorilla sealant, rain proof in around 4 hours and cures in 24. I’ve found the no nonsense stuff take days of dry weather before it cure and sometimes like yourself it doesn’t.

so far gorilla hasn’t let me down, or I use Dow 785 which is equally good.

I’ve had 9 continuous nights of clear skies but last night the transparency was awful, doesn’t look a lot better tonight so far. I hope to follow this one for some time in Binoculars and a 10 inch Newt. Skies around here suffer from a lot of LED street lights.

Very interesting topic, I’m wondering if Orion is the only company who reposts mirrors in the U.K. or do anyone know of another vendor.
